Lost Memories

A tiny lucky cat ornament among tufts of a carpet

I found jewellery — silver and gold,
But I was looking for something faded,
For something that was old.
I told the walls to see
If they could find it for me.
I asked the carpet and rugs
To search among their tufts,
But they only found a penny
And assorted stains from mugs.
I wandered through the bin.
Perhaps, mistaken, it had sank there.
The whole room, the place even, was bare.
Because what I looked for
Had faded into nothingness
While I was beguiled.
