Trigger warning for parents not behaving as expected.

A book flies away from piles of books towards an exit sign.

Books piled on a table plot their escape,
While I read my way out of this
Life where mother’s hungry eyes gape.
Books piled on a table plot their escape
Into a world with no red tape,
That ties you into your family’s kiss.
Books piled on a table plot their escape,
While I read my way out of this.

Decided to have a go at the triolet form, using a phrase that’s been resonating with me for a while. I had a milestone birthday recently, which has led to me thinking more about my background and how it informs my writing. As a child I read voraciously, and there was a large element of escaping from living with a chaotic parent into other worlds. If there’s any trigger warnings I should add, please feel free to suggest them.
